How Drug Works
Prevacid inhibits an enzyme system in the stomach lining and stops production of stomach acid, allowing for healing.

How Taken
Follow the directions given to you by your doctor or pharmacist. It is best to take Prevacid before eating. Swallow the capsule whole with water and do not crush or chew before swallowing. Take Prevacid in the morning at the same time every day, unless your doctor as told you otherwise.

Drug Interactions
Antacids slow the amount of Prevacid that gets in your body. Clarithromycin (Biaxin) may lead to a blackening of the tongue. If your are taking ritonavir (Norvir), sucralfate (Carafate), or theophylline (Theo-Dur, others), talk to your doctor or pharmacist about possible interactions with Prevacid.

Missed Dose
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.

Storage
Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Keep Prevacid in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.

Pregnancy/Nursing
If your are, or plan on becoming pregnant, talk to your doctor about the risks versus the benefits of using Prevacid during your pregnancy. For nursing mothers, it is unknown whether or not Prevacid is excreted in breast milk. It is advised to avoid Prevacid, or refrain from nursing while taking Prevacid.
